The flight mechanics division deals with the analysis of the aircraft motion. This includes performance (takeoff and landing distance, maximum range and duration of flight, flight envelope, stall speed, etc.), flight mechanical design (analysis of static stability, dimension of tail units, rudder effectiveness, etc.), and flight dynamics of an airplane. The analysis is either based on linear or non-linear mathematical models, depending on the respective requirements.

Focal points:

  • Analytical estimation of flight performance and characteristics or estimation based on free-flying models and wind tunnel tests
  • Flight mechanical similarity parameters and scaling laws
  • Flight mechanical design for airplane drag reduction
  • Flight mechanical design to meet given flight mechanical requirements
